Limescale effectively insulates the heating element from heating the water. The element then compensates by heating up even more. This causes the heat exchanger to fail due to over heating

How much does Calgon cost?

This is much easier to calculate. If you use the washing machine 4 times a week, calgon will cost you £58.24 per year, £291.20 every 5 years and £582.40 every 10 years.

If you use the washing machine 6 times a week, calgon will costs you £87.36 per year, £436.80 every 5 years and £873.60 every 10 years.

This is based on buying a large 45 pack of Calgon @ £10.25.

But there an alternative to calgon

Aquabion introduces the new Mini Aquabion for washing machines. These cost the same as using Calgon for 1-2 years and last for 5 years, protecting the washing machine as well reducing the use of detergents. They can be installed in 10 mins and just screw on between the hose and valve. There is no better alternative to calgon.
