The following test has been designed to enhance your knowledge of the AQUABION range. Once you have completed the test, you should be in a better position to sell the product and answer any questions from your customers.
Installation
Bonding is essential for the functioning of the unit. Lots of salespeople try to mislead installers that their product is the same as Aquabion but does not need earthing, this can’t be true. If their unit was working on the Galvanic principle then they would need to earth the pipework as well. The galvanic principle means that a small amount of electricity is created as the small amount of Zinc is released. If there is no electricity then no Zinc is being released.
Electrolytic and Galvanic water conditioners. What’s the difference:
Electrolytic = electrical energy into chemical energy
Galvanic = chemical energy into electrical energy.
Positioning the Aquabion is important. With Aquabion, the performance increases over pipe length. Any critical appliance should have at least 5m of linework between the Aquabion and the appliance.
Plastic pipework to the building is fine as long as the Aquabion is installed in the metal pipework equal to the length of the unit, on both sides of the unit. The bonding must also be installed and the pipework grounded.
Secondary returns (domestic hot water returns) must have a second unit installed after the pump. This is because a small amount of the treated water may be broken apart in the pump.
Sizing is one of the most important subjects. The golden rule to understand is oversizing leads to a reduction in self-cleaning performance. The patent in the Aquabion is the self-cleaning function. If you oversize then the self-cleaning does not work. A really unfortunate fact is that there is a history oversizing commercial building. Indeed one study showed that some methods predict twice the flow that was recorded in real time.
This is why Aquabion spends so much time ensuring we size the units correctly in commercial buildings. If we are in any doubt we install a non-intrusive flow meter for the peak time. This way we can work out what the normal flow is and the peak flow. Only a building like a rugby club will need to be sized for every shower being used at the same time. If you size other buildings, in the same way, it may be oversized which can lead to many problems, unnecessary expense and the Aquabion not working efficiently. Aquabion is only liable for oversizing issues if Aquabion has sized the system or the rules are followed.
It should go without saying if you have read the above we don’t just go with line-size!
